BASIS Holds a Seminar Shedding Light on Expansion of Domestic IT Companies to Japan

Japanese IT market is among the most potential markets to flourish for the Bangladeshi IT companies. In order to make fruitful attempts to crack the Japanese market and to identify the scopes, a seminar was held in Dhaka on Sunday.
Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has been working towards expanding the local IT businesses to Japan and bringing in Japanese investment for the past few years. In continued effort to achieve the same, BASIS had organized Business-to-Business (B2B) seminars in Bangladesh and Japan. BASIS had also partaken in Japan IT Week 2015. As a part of this series of efforts BASIS has organized the seminar. CEOs and various IT professionals from two Japanese companies attended the seminar. Besides over 40 BASIS member companies participated in the seminar. 
The seminar was chaired by S.M. Ashraful Islam, Executive Director of BCC while Sami Ahmed, Executive director of BASIS moderated the session. BASIS Vice President, M Rashidul Hasan and BASIS Secretary General, Uttam Kumar Paul spoke at the seminar.  Other speakers included Mahboob Zaman, Former BASIS President and Managing Director, DataSoft Systems Bangladesh Limited; Abu Parvez Shonchoy, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Tokyo University & PhD Research Fellow, IDE-JETRO; Satoru Koide, President, Koide Co. Ltd.; Mohammad Jafar Iqbal, MD & CEO, Opus Technology Ltd; Enamul Kabir, Director, BCC; Dr. Ashir Ahmed, Associate Professor, Kyushu University and Project Coordinator, Grameen Communications; Toru Okazaki, Managing Director, DJIT; Anjan Das, Director, Usha International Co. Ltd. & Member of Bangladeshi IT Professionals Group in Japan; AKM Ahmedul Islam, Managing Director & COO, Atom AP Limited; Shahjahan Ali Shawon, Managing Director,N-Wave Bangladesh; Yasmin Nilufa, Head of Product and IT, HRS Japan & Member of Bangladeshi IT Professionals Group in Japan; Akbar Sawkat JM, CEO, BJIT Ltd. / Mr.  Mehedi Masud, COO & Director, BJIT Ltd., Rejwanur Kabir Rajin, COO, Destiny Inc. & Member of Bangladeshi IT Professionals Group in Japan; Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun), MD, NewVision Solutions Limited & Director, JBCCI and Md. Jakaria Manik, CEO, Infocrat Solutions Limited. 
Speakers conveyed the importance of public-private partnerships for attracting investments and facilitate expansion at the seminar. They said, Japanese IT companies are showing ample interest in investing in the growing and highly potential IT sector of Bangladesh.  However, there is knowledge gap regarding the capacity of Bangladeshi IT industry prevailing in the minds of majority of Japanese companies and investors. Therefore more significance should be given in the country branding of Bangladesh in Japan. 
Speakers concluded that mutual cooperation between the two countries will reinforce further expansion of IT trade and investment.
