BASIS President in Singapore Investment Summit to further attract foreign investors

The 2nd Bangladesh Investment Summit, Asia was held in Singapore to attract investors from Asian countries. The day long Summit was arranged by a Hong Kong based publication Institute on the Financial & Capital Market of Asia, The FinanceAsia. Mr. Shameem Ahsan, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) showcased the opportunities in ICT sector in Bangladesh.

BASIS President attended the Summit as a panelist. He discussed about the success, opportunities, capabilities and Bangladesh as being the next ICT destination hub of the world. He also showcased the growth of the ICT sector in Bangladesh and also enterprised that being  one of the largest and fastest growing technology market in south & South Asia Bangladesh’s technology sector offers exciting opportunities for foreign investors.

BASIS President Shameem Ahsan said, “We have achieved a milestone of earning export revenues of US$ 100 million in the FY 2012-13. Moreover in the financial year 2013-14, the export earnings reached US$ 134 million.  And we believe that in the next 5 years the export revenues will surpass the targeted US$ 1 billion by the year 2018 and realize BASIS’s vision of “One Bangladesh”. The export growth of this sector is now amongst the top 15 sectors of the country. Bangladesh has become an attractive destination in software & ICT sector worldwide in regard to low cost and easy access in the export market”.
He also said “we are working relentlessly to achieve the target of earning US$ 1 Billion from export revenues of software and ITES, to train and employ 1 million IT skilled professionals to make internet available to 10 million new users yearly and to contribute 1% in GDP from software & IT Sector by 2018.  Within this time the domestic market size shall also reach US$ 2-3 billion. Hence it is a great opportunity for the foreign investors to invest in Bangladesh ICT sector.

Mr. Gowher Rizvi,International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Farooq Sobhan, Ambassador, President and CEO, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, H.E. Mahbub Uz Zaman, High Commissioner, Bangladesh High Commission, Syed Afsor H. Uddin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PPP Office, The Prime Minister's Office, Government of Bangladesh, Nabhash Chandra Mandal, Executive Member of Board of Investment and Additional Secretary, Government of Bangladesh, Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Seamark Group, Mahfuz Anam, Editor & Publisher, The Daily Star were also present during summit at the  Four Seasons, Singapore.
