BASIS delegation met Finance Minister

BASIS delegation met Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Ministry of Finance. Budget allocation for the development of ICT sector and VAT issues were discussed in the meeting. BASIS leaders urged to allocate Tk. 70 crore initially to initiate the ICT development fund and to allocate Tk. 50 crore for a crash training program to make 10,000 skilled ICT professionals by next two years time as both these components are clearly mentioned in the National ICT Policy 2009. Besides, they requested the Hon’ble Minister to withdraw the existing 15% VAT from Internet usage and also from e-Commerce transaction. BASIS delegation also urged to initiate a new service code for Software and ITES and to establish at least five software technology parks in the Dhaka city. 
 
The Hon’ble Fiance Minister assured BASIS delegation to consider these issues. As member of BASIS delegation, Mr. AKM Fahim Mashroor, Acting President; Ms. Farhana A Rahman, Vice President; Mr. Forkan Bin Quasem, Secretary General and Mr. Shameem Ahsan, Chairman, BASIS Standing Committee on International Market Development attended the meeting.
