  Dear All,

I am Martin Labbe and I work at the International Trade Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. Our partner BASIS is giving us a chance to tell you about was the "NTFII Bangladesh" project, which is funded by the Dutch government through CBI. As the NTFII Bangladesh project manager, I will use the opportunity of this first post to inform you about our next steps for the first half of 2011:

March: The Expression of Interest process is closed: 40 companies have been selected. We will work with them on their business development in Europe. In Dhaka, we are hiring a country project coordinator (CPC) who will be hosted at DCCI. The CPC will be our local "arm", chasing service providers, communicating with the beneficiary companies, our communication relay with DCCI and BASIS; he/she will also be a "trouble shooter". Last but not least, his/her duties include dealing with the media, and reporting. Sounds like a great job! Also this month, we are working on enhancing the BASIS website with a cutting-edge online directory, to make the members database truly searchable and give potential clients a quick idea of what Bangladeshi companies are offering.

April-May-June: In parallel, we are developing a vendor catalog for the 40 companies, success stories and testimonials and working on the terms of reference for a short, "to the point" video commercial for the IT industry. In June, ITC will organise through partner institutions in Bangladesh the participation of selected SMEs in European promotion events which will take place in the target markets (UK, Netherlands and Denmark).

Mid-2011: We will start developing a matchmaking service for BASIS, to make sure that what we do in the NTFII project can be replicated by BASIS in a sustainable manner - in UN jargon, we call this "building the capacity of TSIs to provide business linkaging services". We should also be training some of your trade attaches in Europe as Bangladesh IT & ITES Ambassadors.

So far, so good!
I will keep you informed and share more information as we advance with implementation.
Don't forget: BangladeshNEXT!
