The prestigious World Summit of Information Services (WSIS) award is presented globally every year for outstanding performance in providing citizen centric services through ICT. The Union Information Service Centre (UISC)s, an initiative of the Access to Information Program (A2i) of Prime Minister?s Office won the WSIS award in 2014. This year there are 7 initiatives from Bangladesh which have been nominated for the WSIS Award 2015. The ICT State Minister Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak urged everyone to vote for these initiatives to make them win and enlighten the global impression of Bangladesh.
A press conference took place on the 19th April, 2015, in the auditorium of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) where the State Minister expressed his opinions about the nominations and announced to start off a voting campaign. The event was presided over by the President of BASIS Mr. Shameem Ahsan. The Secretary of the ICT Division Mr. Shyam Sunder Sikder was present in the program as a special guest and the project director of the Access to Information Programme Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar also attended the program. The program was moderated by Mr. Sami Ahmed, Execuive Director, BASIS. Speeches were delivered by the Managing Director of Synesis IT Mr. Sohrab Ahmed Chowdhury and Md. Nazrul Islam, E-Agriculture expert of Empower Social Enterprise Ltd.
