Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the national trade body for ICT in Bangladesh, has achieved the membership of Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA). BASIS has been accorded the membership in the 48th Executive Meeting of APICTA held at Singapore during March 23-24, 2015.
BASIS President Mr. Shameem Ahsan announced this news officially in a press conference at BASIS Board Room today, Tuesday March 31, 2015. Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak , MP, State Minister of ICT Division was present at the program as the Chief Guest.
APICTA is a renowned organization in the ICT sector of Asia. Being an association of the ICT trade bodies of the Asia Pacific Region, APICTA works with the partner countries for the development of the sector and the economies as well. Moreover, it plays an important role to showcase the technologies of the partner countries throughout the global market, development of software and technology sector and to take the technology innovations of the countries far ahead. Recently, BASIS applied for the membership of APICTA to increase the business opportunities in the ICT sector of the different countries of Asia. The national trade bodies for ICT sector of any countries need to fulfill six eligibility criteria including the ability to organize APICTA Award locally to get APICTA membership. The applicant association needs to show a presentation over the Executive Committee elaborating the candidature of association after overcoming several steps after submission of application. Then the committee announces the membership. As a part of this BASIS was invited to join the 48th Executive Committee meeting of APICTA. In response to the invitation of APICTA, BASIS President Mr. Shameem Ahsan gave a presentation over the Executive Council showing the development and potential of the ICT sector of Bangladesh. The other member countries of APICTA were impressed with the activities of BASIS, and they also appreciated this. BASIS President Shameem Ahsan along with Mr. Abdullah H Kafi, the former Chairman of Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) and Mr. Uttam Kumar Paul, Secretary General of BASIS attended in the consensual meetings with the representatives of the members countries and requested them to vote for Bangladesh. In response to this they have voted for Bangladesh being impressed by the presentation of BASIS. BASIS has achieved the membership of such distinguished organization after all these procedures.
BASIS President Mr. Shameem Ahsan said that, focusing on only the Europe and American market is not enough for the development of Bangladeshi ICT sector and country branding as well rather the Asian countries also need to be focused. As APICTA is playing an important role in the development of the ICT sector of the region, BASIS, being a member of APICTA will be able to attend bilateral meeting with the other member countries. This will increase business and investment opportunities and BASIS?s One Bangladesh will be achieved with this finally.
Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the Chief Guest of the program, said that, being a member such an organization as APICTA is a glorious achievement for us. It will be possible for us to change the total scenario of ICT sector of Bangladesh with this. Business opportunity will be increased through the bilateral relation with the member organizations of APICTA, technology transfer and other activities.
APICTA works for the development of the IT product and services of the member countries. Other than that APICTA Award is given every year to the best ICT innovations. Business matchmakings are also organized with the potential investors, potential partners and customers. Mutual technology transfer and development is shown through business expo, seminar and trade missions. APICTA R&D maintains the consistency with the industry and economy of the countries. APICTA also works with the member countries to create more IT skilled manpower and employment. The member countries develop their overall ICT sector through these activities of APICTA. BASIS also will be able to develop the ICT sector of Bangladesh being an APICTA member.
The other member countries of APICTA are Australia, Brunei, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Machao, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
Mr. Mahboob Zaman and Mr. SM Kamal, former Presidents of BASIS, Mr. Atique-E-Rabbani, Mr. Shoeb Ahmed Masud, Mr. Forkan Bin Quasem, the former Secretary Generals of BASIS, Mr. Uttam Kumar Paul, Secretary General of BASIS, Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Sohel, Joint Secretary General of BASIS and Executive Director Mr. Sami Ahmed were also present at the program amongst others.
