Bangladesh is a Potential Destination to Invest in ICT Sector: Foreign State Minister at BASIS Seminar
September 9 (Tuesday), 2014: The present government has been giving emphasize on the ICT sector for more than 5 years with a view to transform our country into Digital Bangladesh. The infrastructure of ICT sector has been changed a lot. For this reason, the dream of Digital Bangladesh becomes true. Mass people of our country are now getting ICT services. In this regard, BASIS has a pivotal role in association with the Government.

State Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Shahriar Alam M. P. at a seminar titled Investing in Bangladesh arranged by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Service (BASIS). BASIS President Mr. Shameem Ahsan presided over the program where Mr. Christian Rebergen, Director Grneral, International Cooperation from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and H. E. Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Gerben Sjoerd de Jong were also present as special guests. Mr. Russell T Ahmed, Sr. Vice President of BASIS delivered the welcome speech and Mr. Sami Ahmed, Executive Director of BASIS gave a presentation clarifying different aspects of ICT sector of Bangladesh.

The seminar took place in the Seminar Room of BASIS where the State Minister again added that Gartner, a renowned research organization, recognized Bangladesh as one of the top 30 ICT services destinations. The renowned IT companies of the world are extending their services by investing and setting up their branches as well in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has been regarding as one of the promising investment destinations to the world for the initiatives such as governments Digital Bangladesh, BASISs One Bangladesh etc. The State Minister requested the present Dutch ICT entrepreneurs to invest more in Bangladesh.

BASIS President Mr. Shameem Ahsan mentioned that the ICT sector of Bangladesh has been developing tremendously for last few years. In this perspective, BASIS is playing the major role. BASIS is working relentlessly to create local as well as international market in ICT sector, Social Corporate Responsibility and so on. Country branding is needed to increase the possibilities of Bangladesh. For this reason, BASIS regularly arranges different seminars, symposiums, summits etc. US-Bangladesh Tech Summit and Europe-Bangladesh Tech Summit are the best examples from them. According to the European Commission, Bangladesh is one of the top 20 IT outsourcing destinations. So it is worth mentioning that the opportunity of Bangladeshi ICT sector is growing day by day. For this reason, the renowned ICT companies of the world are looking forward to Bangladesh.

Mr. Christian Rebergen, Director Grneral, International Cooperation from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and H. E. Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Gerben Sjoerd de Jong praised the initiatives BASIS and Bangladesh Government taking to develop the ICT sector. They told that the have come to Bangladesh with a view to invest and build business relationship. To fulfill this target a two days B2B matchmaking meeting is going on at BASIS where hundreds of meetings are supposed to be held between 5 Dutch and more than 50 Bangladeshi Companies. BASIS hopes that this meeting will build business collaboration and joint venture investment in ICT business between Bangladesh Netherland.
