Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has opened a new chapter in the port city of Chittagong with a view to expand IT business, creating skilled manpower and to decentralize the overall activities. A five member convening committee has been formed initially.
Last Saturday, representatives of the BASIS member companies from Chittagong met with BASIS Executive Committee members and established the committee. The committee is headed by the Managing Director of Copotronic Infosystems Ltd., Mr. Md. Imrul Islam Chowdhury. Other members include ? Managing Director of Xponent Infosystems Mr. Abul Kashem, Managing Director of Corporate IT Limited Md. Jillur Rahman Lipton, CEO of Desh IT, Professor Rezaul Karim and Managing Director of Frenz I Park, Mr. Ahsanul Karim.
The President of BASIS, Mr. Shameem Ahsan, presided over the meeting. BASIS Senior Vice President, Mr. Russell T. Ahmed, Secretary General, Mr. Uttam Kumar Paul, Joint Secretary General, Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Sohel and Director, Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu were also present on the meeting.
At the meeting it was announced that Chittagong is playing a significant role in the financial development of the country. There are many companies there which have created software and IT enabled services which have been sold to both domestic and foreign clients. These companies need to be given the same privileges and benefits given to companies which are situated in Dhaka and to take a greater part in the BASIS community. For those purposes, the BASIS chapter was opened in Chittagong. Aside from this, for skill development and training, BASIS sub organization BASIS Institute of Technology and Management (BITM) will also begin activities through the Chittagong Chapter.
