BASIS holds 17th Annual General Meeting

The 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) marked yet another successful year for Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). Country’s Software and IT Association held this year’s AGM on Saturday at the Lakeshore Hotel, Dhaka. The meeting was held with the aim of expanding the domestic IT market with the support of public-private initiatives.
Under the auspices of BASIS President Shameem Ahsan, other Executive Council members of BASIS and representatives from BASIS member companies had partaken in the AGM.  Present at the meeting were BASIS Senior Vice President, Russell T Ahmed; BASIS Vice President, M Rashidul Hasan; BASIS Secretary General, Uttam Kumar Paul; BASIS Joint Secretary General, Mostafizur Rahman Sohel; BASIS Treasurer, Shah Imraul Kaeesh; BASIS Director, Suny Md. Ashraf Khan; BASIS Director, Samira Zuberi Himika; BASIS Director, Ariful Hasan and BASIS Executive Director, Sami Ahmed. Among others BASIS former Presidents A Towhid, Sarwar Alam, Rafiqul Islam Rauli, Habibullah N Karim and A.K.M. Fahim mashroor were present. 
BASIS Secretary General, Uttam Kumar Paul presented the BASIS Executive Council Report in the AGM. He spoke briefly of the BASIS' work over the past year and the progress that had been made. BASIS Treasurer, Shah Imraul Kaeesh presented the financial report of FY 2014-2015. There then followed discussion on the reports by substantial number of members present in the meeting. After the threadbare discussion the reports were passed unanimously.
Members suggested BASIS to assure that considerable number of initiatives taken by the government under the Digital Bangladesh Vision play a role in the development of domestic IT industry. For that members proposed BASIS to take more public-private initiatives that will contribute in the growth of the industry. 
In this regard, BASIS President Shameem Ahsan said, as of now BASIS has organized few remarkable events aimed at developing the IT industry including Digital World, Bangladesh Internet Week and Connecting Startup in partnership with the government. BASIS has played an instrumental role in numerous policy changes related to the ICT sector, some of them being tax exemption for the industry till 2024, exemption of VAT on eCommerce, Venture Capital Policy, Cyber Security Policy and IT company enlistment. BASIS will continue working with the government towards the development of this industry.
