NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016

It is our great pleasure to inform you that Bangladesh is going to be part of the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016, with high hopes of acquiring prestigious prizes of the year. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is going to organize this global event with Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) as the local organizer for the event in Bangladesh.The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48-hours in cities around the world. The event embraces collaborative problem solving with a goal of producing relevant open-source solutions to address global needs applicable to both life on Earth and life in space. This year the event has 6 challenges:

·         Aeronautics

·         Space Station

·         Solar System

·         Technology

·         Earth

·         Journey to Mars


NASA is leading this global collaboration along with a number of government collaborators and over 100 local organizing teams across the globe.

The NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016 is going to be organized from April 22-24, 2016; simultaneously all over the world. Bangladesh will be a part of it, with the expectation of hundreds of teams solving different challenges as set by NASA. BASIS is the core organizer of the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016 across Bangladesh where Dhaka, Rajshahi & Chittagong will be as main venue.

This event will be organized in 70 Universities, 20 polytechnic institutes & 10 colleges will participate in 64 districts all over the country. It will involve approximately 20 lac students virtually and physically approximately 70,000 students in this event.



Anyone can participate in the NASA Space Apps Challenge. It requires individuals with a broad range of skills. Engineers, technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, students, entrepreneurs – anyone who has a passion for changing the world and is willing to contribute, he can be a participator.

For Bangladesh, mostly the students and the IT professionals are encouraged to participate in this event.

Project Detail:       

To be a part of “NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016” for upcoming April 22-24, 2016; BASIS is going to organize a great initiative for making great challenger from our country. BASIS jointly with BASIS student’s Forum, will communicate with the people of all over the Bangladesh especially the student of these area is the targeted group. The project will run from the January to April, 2016. BASIS will provide grooming support for Student Forum Mentors from all districts. They will work as a mentor from their districts and will conduct the regional grooming for the group of participator. There will be an arrangement of reward for the mentor too. There is also another step is the Grooming for Judges and Mentors for ensuring the quality. Finally, the winner/winning team will face the main event & getting opportunity to participate in the global challenge. It will ensure significant solutions from Bangladesh also with ensuring technology transfer through global participation. This event will find the solution from the root level of the country.

This initiative will also encompass kick-off ceremonies, press conferences, grooming event for the participants from 64 districts, opening ceremonies of the 3 major expos, university and college campaigns, branding and marketing campaigns, ATL and BTL communication and so forth. Entire event, branding and marketing campaign, media engagement, etc. will be carried out by BASIS.

This event is a very prominent one, through which the global impression of Bangladesh can be further promoted. The team with the best solution will qualify for a final global event for NASA to be held in New York. It will be very prestigious for the sponsor as well, as it will mark the presence of the event as sponsor and the people related to it in the global arena.
