BITMAP Project

The Bangladesh Information Technology Management Programme BITMAP was designed to upgrade the skill and capacity of the staff within the organization of BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services), in order to enable them in a professional way, to develop and provide a range of business services to their member companies. The project included the organizational development of BASIS and the implementation of a pilot training programme for the ICT sector member companies in Bangladesh.

Long term objectives

1. To increase exports of ICT services from Bangladesh
2. To improve services offered by BASIS 
3. To strengthen trade relations between Denmark (EU) and Bangladesh


Immediate objectives

1. To establish an export consultant team to assist ICT companies in Bangladesh.
2. To facilitate the development of BASIS – benchmarking with an ICT organization in India
3. To improve management competencies in general and export management skills in particular in a number of relevant ICT companies in Bangladesh to the benefit of not only the companies but also to the economy of the country.
4. To introduce an alternative approach to export management education when training in Bangladesh, which is more practical oriented in order to achieve new exports.


Target groups

Group 1: Employees of BASIS whose members are exporting or are planning to start export.

Group 2: BASIS Board input through benchmarking and long term development of the organisation

Group 3: Private export consultants, who are already providing or who plan to provide professional assistance to ICT companies.

Group 4: Employees in exporting companies, who are investigating the possibilities for expanding through export.

The project trained a total of 20 trainees through its 8 module training programme spread out in 4 sessions. During the programme they were divided into groups of 4-5 trainees for export assignments in the companies, and for study groups. Out of the 20 trainees, 12 came from BASIS member companies whereas the remaining 8 are individual export consultants.
